Things to do in Cherating

As in my previous post on The Legend Resort Cherating, I'd mentioned a few places you can visit and some fun activities to do around Cherating, besides the non-stop awing to the beautiful beach and swimming in the clear sea water. So here's the experiences that I gained on my 3 days trip.

Visit Turtle Santuary and Information Centre and released baby turtles

First of all, please please please spend some of your precious time visiting the Turtle Sanctuary and Information Center in Cherating. The turtle sanctuary is a protected area, managed by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia with the cooperation of the Pahang State Government. At the sanctuary, you'll get a lot of information on turtle awareness and take note that this is important in a way to help saving sea turtles from extinction. Besides the video shows and information, the turtle sanctuary also offers turtle hatching and releasing hatchling to the sea programmes.

Penang Hill (Bukit bendera), Penang

Penang Hill is a hill resort comprising a group of peaks, the major hill system of Penang, Malaysia. It is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the city centre of George Town, and stands out prominently from the lowlands as a hilly and forested area. Penang Hill is also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak. The hill is 830 m high (2,750 foot) and it's a bit cooler than the city below.

The Penang Hill Railway is a two section funicular railway which climbs Penang Hill. The total journey takes about half an hour, with passengers changing cars at the mid-point station. The train may stop at other intermediate stations upon request. Funicular train leaves every 30 minutes at a cost of rm4 per person and carry maximum of 80 passangers per trip.

From the top of the hill, you can view the breathtaking panorama of the Penang - the city, the bridge, the sea and the mainland.

One of Penang Hill attraction is the Bird Sanctuary, next to the Bellevue Hotel.

The original old wooden coach.

Rabbit Farm, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang

Location : Berjaya Hill, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang

rabbit farm is another attraction of bukit tinggi. the entrance fee to the rabbit park is rm3/person. free for child under 2. when u buy the entrance ticket at the counter, make sure u buy the rabbit feed at rm1.50/packet.

this is the open area for the rabbits. u can touch and play and feed the rabbits. there is another area for newborn rabbits, which are quarantine and u can't feed them.

"feed me..!"

there are also donkeys in the rabbit farm. but not all are truly donkeys. if i'm not mistaken, there is only a donkey at the time we went there. the others are the half-breed of horse and donkey. so the horse+donkey have nicer fur than the original donkey but the hair isn't as nice as a horse have.

this is Simon, Sofea, and the last one i didn't remember (sorry! ;p)

kids below 50kg can also try to ride this half-breed horse/donkey.

a male deer have antlers that are shed and regrown every year from a structure called a pedicle. Antlers grow as highly vascular spongy tissue covered in a skin called velvet. Before the beginning of a species' mating season, the antlers calcify under the velvet and become hard bone. The velvet is then rubbed off leaving dead bone which forms the hard antlers. After the mating season, the pedicle and the antler base are separated by a layer of softer tissue, and the antler falls off.

This is the antler of the (above picture) deer that have fall down during last mating season.

beside rabbits, deer and donkeys, there were also flamingos, Billy the goat and tortoises. It's fun to bring the kids here. Even the adults enjoy being with the animals.

Phasmid Corner

The Phasmid Corner is one of the best part in the Butterfly Farm where fascinating insects with perfect camouflage for their environment are placed.

**Phasmatodea/Phasmida - the ordinal name is derived from the Greek "phasma" meaning an apparition or phantom, and refers to the resemblance of many species to sticks or leaves. Their natural camouflage can make them extremely difficult to spot. (source: wikipedia)

Lets play hide and seek with the insects!!
