As in my previous post on The Legend Resort Cherating, I'd mentioned a few places you can visit and some fun activities to do around Cherating, besides the non-stop awing to the beautiful beach and swimming in the clear sea water. So here's the experiences that I gained on my 3 days trip.
Visit Turtle Santuary and Information Centre and released baby turtles
First of all, please please please spend some of
your precious time visiting the Turtle Sanctuary and Information Center in
Cherating. The turtle sanctuary is a protected area, managed by the Department
of Fisheries Malaysia with the cooperation of the Pahang State Government. At
the sanctuary, you'll get a lot of information on turtle awareness and take
note that this is important in a way to help saving sea turtles from
extinction. Besides the video shows and information, the turtle sanctuary also
offers turtle hatching and releasing hatchling to the sea programmes.
Aren't they the cutest thing ever??
Tortoise and terrapin are also kept at the sanctuary for public to see
The baby turtles I released to the sea at the beach of The
Legend Resort Cherating. I hope you'll survive, dear turtle. We were told that
usually, only 2-3 out of hundred baby turtles that were released, survived the
cruel big ocean. :'(
Firefly watching tour by Hafiz's Cherating Activities
Hafiz's Cherating Activities' wall of fame
Getting ready for the firefly watching tour along the
Cherating mangrove river. Too bad even small little lights exposed would make
the fireflies fly away, hence no pictures of them.. :(
However... Here's a video captured,
not by me, for you to have a look.

But honestly, this
is something you don't want to watch only on photos or videos. This is
something that you would want to go and see with your naked eyes, experience
the moment when Mr Hafiz, the tour guide "communicate" with the
fireflies and suddenly they just fly towards you, and you can catch them with
your eyes...Oh God I just don't know how to describe it. I think I was lost in
my own world with the fireflies for a moment.
Cherating Mangrove River cruise
The next
interesting activity waiting for you in Cherating is the Cherating Mangrove River cruise. I've been on boats going here and
there, cruising some rivers, but I've never been on a boat cruise along
mangrove river. The Cherating river, unlike most of the river in Malaysia, is
very clean and there were very minimum amount of trash seen floating on the
water or stuck between the mangrove roots. During the trip across the river, we
spotted some wild animals like monitor lizards, mangrove snakes and monkeys.
Cruising along
the Cherating Mangrove river early in the morning .
Learn batik painting at the Limbong Art
For art and culture lover, make sure you head to Limbong Art which is located a few kilometers from the resort to learn how to canting (paint) batik
- the Malaysia's renowned hand-painted fabric. Owned by Mr Mazlan and his wife,
the place also offers beautiful batik stuff like fabric for clothing,
ready-made shirts and crafts for you to bring home as a souvenir.
Keropok lekor demonstration at Keropok Cap Intan, Kemaman
As we were already in Cherating, it would be a lost if you did not travel a little further crossing the Pahang-Terengganu border to Kuala Kemaman, Terengganu which is well known for its sea products. In Kemaman, fish crackers are one of the locals revenues. Stores that sell fish crackers can be seen along the journey to Kuala Kemaman from Cherating. We also had the opportunity to stop at one of the local store, Keropok Cap Intan, to buy some fish crackers for the family at home. I am lucky to had the chance to add another interesting and valuable experience where I was given the opportunity by the store operators to try to 'produce' the steamed fish crackers. You can not get this experience just anywhere.

There are a lot more fun activities to be done while you're in Cherating such as cruise to the Snake Island and snorkeling, and river kayaking, which unfortunately we did not had a chance to do. How I wish I can stay there a little bit longer to explore more about the nature-friendly and fun Cherating. *sigh*
And remeber, all of the activities listed here can be booked through The Legend Resort Cherating. So much easier for you to plan for your trip.
