Malacca Straits Mosque (Masjid Selat Melaka) is one of the
attractive destinations worth a visit if you travel to Melaka. The mosque is
also known as the Floating Mosque because it seems to float when the tide is
high.
Interestingly, the Malacca Straits Mosque was built on the
sea surface in the area of artificial island called Pulau Melaka, located at
the Straits of Malacca which is the longest and busiest straits in the world.
Children area
The mosque's construction began in June 2003 and fully done on August
29, 2006. It was officially launched by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed
Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail on 24 November 2006.
The Malacca Straits Mosque was built in the middle of the
central business district in Bandar Hilir. It is a recent landmark in Malacca
and well indicates determination state government commitment to the teachings
of Islam.
